Varassova Mountain
The massif of Varasova hide long history, which believed that it was named by the king Vara, who lived in the area. Other versions say that the name is Slavic and means "the place of copper", or "the place where the air is" banging.
The Barasova is a compact Trikorfa massif. The highest peak is 914 m. Called Hammer and symbolized by the bollard (trigonometric point-Trigonometrical point) of the Military Geographic Service. In some caves Varasova are stalactites and stalagmites. The state with its decision considered the mountain as a place of history and outstanding natural beauty.
During the Byzantine period and the Turkish occupation due to the many churches, monasteries and hermitages of monks who were in the region of Varasova (about 72), was called as the "Holy Mountain Rumeli", "Athos of Western Greece", and "Sanctuary Mountain".
At a height of about 835 meters and surrounded by a landscape of oaks on the eastern side of the mountain there is a well with water. In the south and southwest slopes steeply into the sea, forming steep cliffs with wild, breathtaking beauty where the settlement of Krioneri. To the west of Varasova height and slope of allowing free flight paragliding.
The Varasova regarded as one of the best climbing mountains of Greece since the part can satisfy the most demanding climbers. For this, every spring, that of limestone pavement temperatures are ideal, many mountaineering clubs and individual groups of climbers from Greece and abroad enjoying hiking trails.
